Exhibition:
One Red Blood - Gulpilil in the Landscape
Midnight in Paris Gallery, 71 High St, Prahran
May 1 st- June 13th, 2026
Exhibition Statement
One Red Blood - is a tribute exhibition honouring the life and legacy of the late David Gulpilil Ridjimiraril Dalaithngu—actor, bridge builder, and Australian icon. Presented by Phoebe Marson Gulpilil, Damian Walshe-Howling, and Eamon Wyss, the exhibition brings together art, story and lineage to create a shared space where remembrance and imagination meet.
At its core, One Red Blood is guided by David Gulpilil’s belief that beneath our differences, we are all one red blood, with a shared responsibility to care for each other and the land we walk on. The exhibition takes this insight as the foundation for a new shared dreaming—not to replace ancient knowledge, but to create a meeting place between cultures. Understood as a way of listening, remembering, and imagining together, shared dreaming is a living process—one that not only honours what lies behind us, but explores how new stories can guide us forward.
Artist Contributions
Eamon Wyss
Eamon Wyss contributes a series of abstract aerial photography of Australian salt lakes, taken by drone, coincidentally the day David Gulpilil passed away. Unmanipulated and meditative, these images capture both the physical and dream-like contours of the land from above. Through his work, the land itself becomes the storyteller, revealing hidden stories shaped by time and the natural patterns of the landscape.

Phoebe Marson Gulpilil
Phoebe Marson Gulpilil, David’s daughter, grounds the exhibition through her lineage, bringing an intimate connection to Country, community, and cultural responsibility. She continues her father’s legacy of connection and change through her consultancy work within community and policy, acting as a meeting point between traditional knowledge and contemporary dialogue, including her recent work alongside the Victorian Treaty.

Damian Walshe-Howling
Damian Walshe-Howling contributes personal reflections drawn from his experience working with and directing David Gulpilil in his 2016 short film MESSiAH, filmed in the Northern Kimberley region of Western Australia. Through story, remembrance, and screenings of the film, Damian offers insight into David not only as a towering cultural figure, but as a collaborator, mentor, and unique human being, navigating the space between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds.

Shared dreaming
One Red Blood offers a place to pause, listen, and come together. It honours David Gulpilil not only through remembrance, but by continuing the work he embodied—using story as a bridge, the land as teacher, and shared dreaming as a way of walking forward together.
